Tech Talkers is a small group program designed for carers and support workers of people adults using AAC communication systems. During the program, participants will learn how to support the AAC user to reach their full communication potential.
Outcome of the program will be:
Supporting communication partners to to feel confident when using the communication system;
Learning to use strategies that research shows help people use communication systems;
Identifying specific communication goals and knowing how to work towards achieving them;
Meeting other people who support someone with a communication system.
Who is Tech Talkers for?
Tech Talkers is suitable for carers and support workers of people of all ages who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), both low tech and high tech. Up to three people who support the person using the AAC system may attend E.g., Parents, grandparents and/or support workers. At least one of these people need to commit to attending all of the six group sessions.
What does Tech Talkers look like?
1x 1hr pre-assessment with the group facilitator (parent/ carer/support worker and AAC user attends)
6x 2hr weekly group sessions at the therapy site with parents/carer/support worker only (AAC user does not attend)
1x 1hr session with group facilitator mid-way through presentations (between presentations 4 and 5) note: there is no group presentation that week
